A Night Stand

This is a solid wood night stand that I picked up at Goodwill for $9.99.  I had so much other stuff in my cart that I couldn't fit this in too.  So, I took the top drawer out and walked around the store with just the drawer.  I figured no one would try and buy it with a missing drawer : ).  I sanded down the top and drawer fronts and stained them in Minwax Jacobean and sealed with a clear poly.  For the rest of the piece, I used a sample jar of Benjamin Moore "Quiet Moments".  It was just enough to cover the night stand.  I distressed it and then sealed it with a clear poly.  I also sprayed the original hardware with oil rubbed bronze.

Mason Jar Project

This project was really simple.  I collected some mason jars and used my favorite paints to liven them up!  I simply poured some paint into the jars, and then turned the jars upside down and swirled them around and let the paint run back into the can.  I then tied some shells onto them using jute.  I also think these would be cute with sand in them to hold a taper candle. Seriously.  Easiest. Project. Ever.

HEAVY Old Dresser Redo

Seriously.  Heavy is an understatement.  Even with the drawers out, it was hard for me to scoot it across the floor.  This dresser was solid, but ugly!!  It had that lovely 80's golden finish with the black specks in it.  I knew I wanted a dark top.  I also wanted to brighten the rest of the piece up.  Because I scored this for only $20, I could afford to replace all of the hardware on it!

I decided to use Minwax Jacobean stain, after I sanded down the top completely.  I had a hard time deciding on a color for the body.  I finally decided on a mixture of chalk paint.  I used ASCP in Old White and Paris Grey.  I taped off the stripes to make sure my lines were straight, but didn't measure them... just kind of eye balled it to see where the stripes should go.  I also filled in the holes from the old handles and pulls, and replaced them with the bin pulls and the large glass knobs.  The entire body of the piece was finished with 2 coats of AS clear wax, after a good distressing.  I used a clear poly to seal the top.  I prefer poly on the tops of my pieces, but that is just me : )

Antique Dresser Update And A Feature!

First off, I want to thank Katie over at Creatively Living for featuring my old spindle dresser on her blog!

This is a great little antique dresser and mirror set purchased off Craigslist.  I sanded the entire piece down and then used vaseline on the areas I didn't want the paint to stick to.  Then I painted the dresser ASCP's Duck Egg, and I stained the top of the dresser and the 3 drawers with Minwax Jacobean.  I waxed the dresser with AS clear wax after I distressed it, and used a clear poly on the top of the dresser and the three drawers.

Antique Windows

My dad hoards collects everything.  He has an entire attic full of antique and vintage everything!  He told me I could have his antique windows and do whatever I wanted with them
: ) .

I have been wanting to try DIY mercury glass for awhile now, so I decided to try it on the antique windows.  I first cleaned the windows and then followed the directions on the Krylon Looking Glass spray paint.  You are supposed to spray a thin even coat, every minute.  Coating the glass 5 times total.  After I finished with this part, I lightly misted a 50/50 mixture of vinegar and water over the glass.  I let this sit for 1 minute and then sprayed a paper towel with the mixture and then wiped the glass in an up/down pattern LIGHTLY!!!  After I removed some of the spray paint, I lightly sprayed the glass again.

After all of this was dry, I painted the front of the window trim in Annie Sloan Duck Egg.  I then lightly distressed, and attached 2 D-rings to the back of each window.  Antique windows, mercury glass and chalk paint.  LOVE!

On the third window, there was 1 broken piece of glass.  So I decided to break a few more and then paint the entire thing in ASCP Duck Egg.  I then used small eye bolts on the frames without glass and attached some twine to them.  I used small clothes pins to hang pictures.  Again, I attached 2 D-rings to the back for easy hanging.
