Lake Minnetonka Inspired Subway Dresser

I love this style dresser.  I have done a ton of them, and it never gets old.  This one was especially nice because the person selling it had already started to refinish it.... which meant less sanding for me : ).  I have been wanting to try a subway style dresser and decided that this gem would be a good fit.  I sanded it and used a mixture of Minwax English Chestnut and Dark Walnut stains.


Before:

I used Cosco Helvetica letter stencils in 3", 2" and 1".  After I stained the dresser and let it dry, I applied the adhesive stencils and painted over them with ASCP in Paris Grey.  When the paint had dried, I sanded the entire thing down.  Then, I carefully peeled the stencils off.  I sealed the entire dresser with AS Clear Wax.  For this project, I used cities and places around the lake I grew up on:  Lake Minnetonka.

A Sneak Peek... and Some Cuteness!

Here is a sneak peek at an antique dresser I just started.

In other news:  Here some cuties that have decided my hostas make a really cozy nest.  There were 6 bunnies at first, but now we are down to 2 : (.  The neighbor's dogs ate 3 of them, and injured 1.  The injured one kept crawling out into the lawn and I kept moving back into the nest so it wouldn't get trampled by my kids, but yesterday I found it dead in the nest.  I scooped it out and am hopeful the other 2 bunnies are safely hiding somewhere.  They are so cute!

And, my parents are getting a puppy!  I went with my mom to pick out her puppy (Cavalier King Charles).  Here is a close up of the litter.  "Gracie" is the one in the back on the left.

Blogger Fail!!

I just failed blogging 101.  I totally forgot to take a "before" picture of this chair.  It was the typical golden oak stain and it had a horrible green velvet fabric.  One of the legs was broken and all of the screws needed tightening.  I put a coat of ASCP Paris Grey on it and then distressed and waxed with AS Clear Wax.  For the seat I recovered it in a cream canvas.

Antique Door Turned Chalk Board

I am still here!  Just dealing with 3 years of home maintenance all at once : ).  We are all moved back into our home.  It is so nice to have all of our things under 1 roof again.  The first load of laundry I did ended up leaking from the 2nd floor laundry room down into the basement.  So, I got a new washing machine.  The house has new paint and carpet and new landscaping.  It is starting to feel like our home again : )  I have a quick project to share with you today:


I found this amazing antique door at my favorite little shop for a fabulous price.  I simply sanded down the inset parts of the door and then painted with chalkboard paint.  I also hung D-rings on the back for easy hanging.

Another Tall Boy...

I love this style dresser.  This one was in pretty good shape overall.  The drawers still functioned and the top was in great condition.  It had the usual chipped veneer on the drawers. I sanded down the entire dresser, and stained the top.  I then painted the remainder of the dresser with Benjamin Moore "Glass Slipper".  I just used this color for my living room and I love it.  Once again, the "after" pictures were taken when the power was out, so they aren't the best : )

A Coffee Table

I picked this table up off of Craigslist.  It started out with dark green legs, and a honey-oak stained top.  I sanded the top down to bare wood and stained it.  I painted the legs and frame with Benjamin Moore "Wedgewood Gray".  The entire thing is sealed with clear poly.  I apologize for the poor quality "after" photos...  they were taken once the piece was in my space at Mama's Happy... and the power was out : )


In the past 2 weeks, I have painted 9 rooms in my house, painted the front door, done 35 bags of mulch + 2 trailer loads of mulch and unpacked 2 Pods.  Due to damage from moving, I also had to repaint 4 kitchen chairs, 2 stools and our kitchen table.  This is all on top of getting my space ready for another month at Mama's Happy... the sale starts in 2 days!!  Tired is an understatement : )
