My Take On Jack

This is a very cheap, simple update to a mirror I found at Goodwill.  It was marked $9.99 (or so I thought).  But, when I got up to the counter to check out, she said it was marked $4.99!  This is a solid, heavy mirror.  I simply sanded it down, and then put 2 coats of ASCP Old White over the entire frame.  After the paint had dried, I then taped off the frame to paint my own version of a Union Jack.  I used ASCP Paris Grey, and a darker grey Behr paint called Magnetite.  I then distressed and finished it off with AS clear wax.

Family Room Reveal!

Our family room started out painted in the same color as the foyer/kitchen: a caramel tan.  We lightened it up and painted it the same color as the new kitchen/foyer with Sherwin Williams "Urban Putty".  Our renters had a dog that peed on the carpet and trashed it, so before we moved back in, we ripped it all out and replaced it.  The pet stains had soaked through the carpet and the pad and had stained the sub floor.  So after we ripped out the carpet and pad, we had to put Kilz down on the spots to block the odor.  I LOVE the new carpet : ).

It took me forever to decide on curtains for this room.  It is a room that shares a wall with the kitchen, which has a sliding door, so I needed 2 panels for the family room, and 2 matching panels for the kitchen.  I tried to save some money and go with the Ballard Designs fringed burlap panels.  When they came, I ironed them and hung them... and hated them : (.  So, I returned them and opted for the Pottery Barn Alessandra.  I love these.  They have just enough color and pattern to make them pop against the beige paint color, but are muted.  I went back and forth between the Vanessa and the Alessandra.  I ended up ordering 2 throw pillows in the Vanessa pattern.  I think they coordinate nicely with the Alessandra panels.  I'm hoping to order 2 Vanessa panels for our front entry way soon : )

Our plan is to eventually paint all of the woodwork white, and stain the mantel a darker stain. The antique rocker will also be replaced with the Pottery Barn Basic chair + ottoman.

Living Room & Guest Bath Reveal

We have been back in our home for about 2 weeks now.  It has been crazy busy to say the least!!  I painted BEFORE we moved back in, and the house is starting to come together.  If you are a new reader here, here is the story behind us moving back into our home : ).  The living room started out a wine/burgundy color.  When we first built the house back in 2005, I LOVED this color so much.  I really wanted to brighten things up dramatically.  It took 1 coat of Kilz primer and 2 coats of Benjamin Moore "Glass Slipper" to do it.  It was a pain, but definitely worth it.

Here are a few shots of the entry way.  Because it is 2 stories, we hired painters to paint this! The color before was a darker carmel-tan, and again, I wanted to lighten it up.  I chose Sherwin Williams "Urban Putty".  I really love it.  It is the perfect sandy-neutral beige that I was hoping for.  It has grey undertones.   I am on the hunt for a new rug for the entry way.  I also want to hang curtains above the door so we can close them at night and have a little privacy!

Here are some shots of our newly painted guest bath.  Before, it was a dark green.  Again, at the time, I loved this color.  But, when we moved back in, we realized how DARK it was in there.  It is hard to tell in the before picture, but the old paint was a much darker color.  I painted the bathroom and our back hallway in Benjamin Moore Woodlawn Blue.
