Old Spindle Dresser Redo

This dresser was in rough shape.  The middle drawer had been glued back together without clamps, and no longer fit in the dresser.  But, the price was right, so I figured I could figure something out.  I loved the spindle legs and the rest of the piece was in great shape.  For this dresser, I used "Bahaman Sea Blue" by Benjamin Moore.  I wanted a fun, bright color to freshen this one up.  Once the paint dried, I lightly distressed with my sanding sponge and then used my Valspar Antique Glaze over the entire dresser.  I stained the drawer fronts and top with Minwax Jacobean.  Instead of trying to fix the drawer that didn't fit, I went to Home Depot and had them cut a piece of pine to fit in the space to make a shelf.  I then glued a piece of molding in front of the "shelf".

  2. very pretty I've always wondered what to do with a dresser with a missing drawer. In my neck of the woods they can be had for free or almost free and its a waste to see them go to the dump. I hadn't really considered the shelf idea. It looks great!

  6. That looks beautiful! And what a great idea to just fit a new piece of wood in place of the bad drawer! I'll have to keep that in mind :-)

  11. Great redo! Maybe that's what I should do with my stubborn drawer - ditch it for a shelf! :)

  12. I love how this turned out Sarah! The colors and wood go so nice together!

I've been seeing some folks use these for an entertainment center, putting the electronic gadgets in the empty space.

Hope you hung onto the drawer, I've seen on Pinterest people hanging them as a shelf etc.

    1. Thanks, Allison!! We have a new Goodwill around here that I am usually able to find great things at. I also spend some time each day on Craigslist. There is a store about 5 minutes from here called "Garagedale"... that has amazing finds as well : )
